Discover how unspoken emotions and old nervous system patterns might be holding you back from success.
Why Paying Attention to Your Emotions Might Be the Key to Your Success
Last week, I made a mistake. Not a catastrophic one. But just enough to stir something deep within me. And before I could even think clearly, I felt it—a familiar wave of emotion.
I was scared.
Like I was in trouble.
Like I was about to be told off.
In that moment, it wasn’t the calm, capable adult version of me responding.
It was the little girl inside me—the one who tried hard to be good, stay out of trouble, and never rock the boat.
That feeling had nothing to do with the present moment. It was a pattern. A survival response from long ago. An emotional echo still stored in my nervous system. And it reminded me of something I see again and again—in myself, and in the ambitious women I support.
Your Emotions Are Holding the Mic—Even If You’re Not Aware of It
You might think your thoughts are driving your decisions. But more often than not, it’s your emotions quietly running the show.
You say things like:
✨ “I’m not ready.”
✨ “I need more training.”
✨ “I’m not sure I can handle it.”
And while those words sound logical on the surface, underneath they’re often rooted in fear, self-doubt, unworthiness, pressure, or shame.
These emotions aren’t just thoughts in your head, they’re patterns in your body. They’re the stories your nervous system has memorised about what it takes to stay safe. And safety, while deeply important, isn’t the same as fulfilment.
Why Emotional Awareness Is Your Superpower
Most of the decisions you make, especially the ones you don’t make—aren’t about competence. They’re about comfort. They’re shaped not by what you know, but by what you feel.
That invisible resistance to being seen.
The pressure to get it right.
The low-level hum of “what if I fail?”
These emotional undercurrents shape how you show up, what you say yes or no to, and ultimately, what kind of life and business you create. You’re not playing small because you lack potential.
You’re playing small because your system equates smallness with safety.
But here’s the truth:
Growth isn’t about eliminating fear. It’s about not letting fear make the final decision.
There’s a quote I often come back to by Pema Chödrön: “Fear is a natural reaction to moving closer to the truth.”
When fear rises up, it doesn’t always mean “stop.” Sometimes, it’s the signal you’re right at the edge of something meaningful. The more you understand the emotional patterns driving your hesitation, the more freedom you have to choose differently. To act from courage, not conditioning. To lead from your vision, not your fear.
Your Emotions Hold the Clues
If you want to grow your business, step into leadership, or simply live with more ease and alignment… Don’t ignore your emotions. Listen to them.
Not to let them drive you, but to understand where they’re coming from. Because sometimes the fear that’s holding you back… isn’t even about now. It’s a younger version of you who’s still waiting to feel safe.
Give her compassion. Then choose from your power, not your past. Your next level begins with emotional awareness.
